VELVET and KNOTS

20161117_125638

I have had this blouse for a while now and it never really occurred to me that it could be something more than what I throw on when I’m late for school or am going to the grocery store. In that sense this “knots trend” is doing all of us a favor, you can tie a knot on any button up top and have it look just like this one!

We decided to go on mini road trip to San Pedro to satisfy our sea food craving. Since we woke up to a finally cold morning,  I knew it was going to be a lot colder by the docks,  so I paired this top with a black -eight sizes too big- denim jacket I copped from Topshop (on final sale might I add!). With cat eye sunnies from Urban Outfitters and navy blue pointed flats from Topshop, it seemed like the perfect sailor  outfit. Though, I wanted to add something that would give it a fresher, more urban look, which I think this velvet choker from Brandy Melville does for me.

  • Jeans: Nasty Gal

(p.s. I have no idea where the top is from but i’ll try to find out)

Circus in LA

img_5398

I was woken up today to a frantic phone call from my mother telling me a friend had two extra VIP tickets to the Cirque du Soleil, which might I add had already started, so I hopped out of bed and put on the easiest outfit I could get my hands on. I don’t usually show my day to day outfits, and this may come as a surprise, but I’m not always prancing around in 9-inch stilettos.

It’s really handy to have at least one good pair of jeans in your wardrobe, my go-to pair are these A Gold E jeans I got at Nasty Gal (which I’ve mentioned before), these are great depending on how you wear them since they work well in the hot or cold weather, casual or glam looks, etc. you get the point. I went with this top from Brandy Melville, the Charlene top I believe? It’s STILL really sunny in LA, so a white top like this is great for this kind of weather, not to mention it’s not see through at all! A lot of times white blouses tend to be a bit of a problem in that department~ When/If the cold decides to kick in I can easily layer this top with jackets or maybe a sheer long sleeve shirt.

I’m wearing my blue and silver choker, two gold rings, my cow ring <3, and a black beaded ring/thing. I’m also wearing these totally groovy sun glasses from Urban Outfitters, which my friend Cathy is wearing in my last post if you wanna get a closer look.

  • Shoes: Converse
  • Bag: Zara

(p.s. dropped a couple of circus shots at the end)

DAY AT THE BEACH

img_5149

I want this blog to be more than just my clothes, I want it to be my food, my music, my friends, my ventures, my life, and today gave me the opportunity to do just that. My friend Cathy and I decided to go down to Santa Monica, we wanted to do a little shopping, maybe get a bite to eat, then head over to the pier to catch the sunset.

If you’re not familiar with the Santa Monica area, there is a street called the 3rd st. Promenade, basically it’s two long blocks of restaurants, stores, and street performers, so naturally that was our first stop. Despite our hunger, we stopped by Urban Outfitters to pick out some sunglasses because the sun just-wont-stop. I also gathered a couple of things from Brandy Melville which you’ll see a post about real soon!

After filling our stomachs with two of the blandest meals of our lives, we went into a candy store where we found the joy that is “Butterscotch Beer,” which even if you’re like me and are not a crazed Harry Potter fan is a must try if you’re into butterscotch or cream soda.

OK, OK! So, because I knew that I was going straight to dance class after our little trip, I basically wore dance clothes with a jean jacket (which as we all know is my codependent), and a pair of last minute cruisers, but Cathy put some actual thought into her outfit and asked me to share it with you all.

THROW IT WAY BACK..KINDA

20161110_122506

I love basing outfits off of eras or even movie characters, and sometimes I don’t even realize I did until after I put it on. This one has a very 70s vibe to it (taxi cab anyone?), which I know was all the rage last year but as the sun continues to blaze down upon us I decided to break out this old skirt from Topshop that incorporated autumn colors to the outfit while still keeping it fresh. I paired this skirt with a ballerina style top from Forever 21, which look it’s not my favorite store but there are definitely some hidden gems there, and finally, I topped the look off with nude platform sandals from American Apparel.  Oh, I also tied a little black corduroy string around my neck and wore it as choker, this would also look good with any other kind or color of strings that you may have at home as well, so go nuts!

Today was such a great day over-all, after taking these pictures my aunt treated me to some boba which I hadn’t had in such a long time! I also started dancing again, maybe I can do a sort of dance look book kind of thing?

(p.s. check out Time of the Season by The Zombies.. i’m obsessed)

COZY BLUSHES

20161105_161351

Happy Sunday! Hope you’re all having a great weekend. I know the coming Mondays can be daunting but a good way to soften the blow is to wear your favorite, most comfiest over sized sweater like this one from Forever 21, and remember it’s a new week! I am currently so obsessed with blush tones and over exaggerated sleeves,  the former and latter seem to be popping up everywhere so definitely keep an eye out (specially for the exaggerated sleeves, and not just bell sleeves, but long sleeves, ruffle sleeves, and so on).

A classic pair of jeans, or if you’re like me and you live somewhere where the sun don’t rest, a cute pair of denim shorts is the best way to go. I chose this old pair of reworked Levis, which are way too big but oh so comfy. This look would also go nicely with some denim overalls (I know I am denim obsessed). I wore this with my go-to boots from ZARA and some simple gold jewelry because I just loved how all the colors went together.

RAISE MY HENDRIX TO JIMI

20161104_133519

You win some you lose some. That’s all I can really say about this outfit. OK, I lied I have a lot to say: For one, today hit 85 degrees here and that is way too hot when every store at the mall is filled with over sized coats, giant scarves, and velvet blazers (which I love and everyone should have at least one in their closet), that said, Juliet style tops like this one are also a must have this fall/winter, specially if you’re dealing with a delayed winter. Even if you’re not, it would look great with one of those velvet blazers since you could pull out the sleeves for that real Hendrix vibe.

I got this skinny scarf from Forever 21 a couple days ago and I love it so much! I was so excited to wear this that I went against mother nature. Bad. Choice. This led to me putting together a less that adequate outfit, at least from the waist down; I paired this with an old pair of jeans, though if I were to do it again i’d go for some mid waisted denim bell bottoms. Anyhow, finished off with these low cut booties my aunt lent me, and I know that sounds a little gross but they’ve only been worn maybe once before. Also, I have no idea where the jeans are from but i’ll try to find out and let you know.

DENIM ON DENIM and BLUE

img_3572

Because I am constantly running late and constantly running out of clean clothes, I am constantly stressing out over finding a good outfit. Bodysuits like this one from Nasty Gal are a great option since they’re easy to dress up or down and look nice on a variety of body types. Also, it seems like my closet never runs out of denim, which isn’t a bad thing! Wearing denim on denim is a great way to give you a retro downtown look while still keeping it casual, there’s no need to be intimidated by the Britney Spears denim scare of 2001.

As I was putting this outfit on I realized my nails were still painted in my favorite color, Sapphire Desire, so I decided to roll with it and add this beautiful silver and blue choker my mother gave me and butterfly hair pin of the same colors to dress the look up a bit. I was going to finish off with a pair of white Chuck Taylors, but decided to dive deep and pull out these shoes from ALDO that had been hiding in my closet for almost a year. They are super comfy and I love that the glitter changes from green to purple depending on the light.

I also recently bought a few more autumnal pieces that I can’t wait to share with you as soon as this crazy LA weather gets it together!

THAT POP OF COLOR

20161102_171538

I adore the color black, it makes everything seem so effortlessly chic, so when the cold starts rolling in the black outfits do too. While layering a bunch of black pieces can usually give you a quick but put together outfit for almost every occasion, I sometimes feel like my closet falls into a black rut, the key to avoiding this is to not be afraid to bring in some colorful, maybe even out of season colors that could tie your whole outfit together. Remember, black goes with everything..well, almost everything.

I’ve mentioned before that I’ve always been interested in pieces that may feel “out of place” or are total statement pieces, so even when I decide to drape myself in the latest shade of noir, I usually like adding something that pops out. Something as simple as a cute nail polish and the right accessories can really tie in nicely with a classic black outfit. I chose to go with a black miniskirt with colorful embroidery from Topshop , my favorite nail polish by Pop-arazzi (sapphire desire), and a black purse from ZARA which came with a red pom pom hanging from the handle. This, paired with black bellow the knee boots and a black turtleneck cardigan, makes for a casual but less than subtle black outfit.

JUST FALL ENOUGH

Fall is finally here, and as the days gradually get cooler jackets and scarves start to make an undeniable reappearance. I mean what’s not to love about fall? The colors of the leaves, the festive array of seasonal drinks, the cozy sweaters, the cool and calm weather–oh, I’m sorry did I say calm weather? No, no, no, I meant incredibly unpredictable and my closet is in complete distress weather. But there’s no denying it is the perfect time to whip out your favorite fall/winter boots which could go perfectly with anything from a good pair of jeans to a cute skirt and some tights. I paired my go-to boots and Victorian style blouse from ZARA, which is a great place to find transitional weather pieces, with my absolute favorite distressed high rise A Gold E jeans which I copped from Nasty Gal.

I was initially planning on adding a nice belly button length necklace, but decided to keep it simple by layering some rings as the top has some really pretty and delicate details that I didn’t want to outshine. I didn’t really get to picture them but I’m wearing a couple of gold rings and a cow printed one as well. And yes, you read correctly; cow printed ring. I’ve always had an eye for the out of place and this ring really complemented such a minimalist outfit.
